WHAT is SOFTacademy?

SOFTcademy is a renovation project that aims not just to fix up an apartment building, but to renovate the buildings and courtyards of a neighbourhood in an inclusive, beautiful and sustainable way, in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus.

The aim of the project is to develop a package of services for the renovation of apartment buildings in Mustamäe, as well as standard solutions for outdoor spaces, in order to encourage neighbourhood renovation and kick-start a renovation wave.

The pilot project will renovate four apartment buildings (Akadeemia tee 4, 6, 14 and 22) at the beginning of Akadeemia tee and improve the urban space between them. An engagement model will be created in cooperation with the communities and standard solutions will be tested in a replication area.

Project duration: 1.09.2023–31.08.2027

Preserving the environmental value

Mustamäe features modern infrastructure, but it also has preserved historic buildings. Mustamäe is therefore an excellent pilot area for modernisation and renovation projects.

Community-led development

Residents and housing associations will also be involved in the planning and design of the space between buildings owned by the City of Tallinn.

Creating a sustainable living environment

SOFTacademy offers support for the use of innovative environmentally-friendly solutions.

Accelerating renovation

This project will create an engagement model for city governments to accelerate the process of renovating panel buildings.
